Mary Tatano Velez

Mary Tatano Velez, 91, of Stamford, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 17, 2008. Born on May 7, 1917 in Bayonne, New Jersey, she was the daughter of the late Nicola and Anna Valentino Tatano.
She was a former Accountant for the White Tower Management of Stamford for many years. She loved sports, especially baseball, and was an avid duckpin and ten pin bowler. She enjoyed dancing and loved gardening. She adored being with her family, no matter what the occasion.
She is survived by her daughter Linda and her husband Paul Pitman; two sons, Raymond Velez and Gary Velez and his wife Colleen; two grandchildren, John Anzalone and his wife Wendy, and Debbie Esposito and her husband Tony; three great-grandchildren, Nicole Esposito, Tommy Esposito and Nicholas Anzalone; a sister, Anna Collarini; as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her sister, Lena Uva; and two brothers, Andy Tatano and Nick Tatano. She is also predeceased by her former husband, Ray Velez on February 20, 2008.
A funeral procession will be leaving the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, on Friday, August 22 at 10:20 AM and proceed to Our Lady Star of the Sea, 1200 Shippan Avenue, Stamford, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at St. Johns Cemetery, Darien. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday, August 21 from 4-7 PM.
