Mathew J. (Matty) Grande, 82, of Stamford, CT passed away peacefully on New Year's Day with his family at his side. He was born in Stamford on September 23, 1926 to the late Philomena �"Mamie” (Loglisci) and Gaetano �"Tommy” Grande. He was a life-long Stamford resident and worked for the same company for 70 years. He was an auto mechanic for Toyota of Stamford and after �"retirement” continued to work in the office and drive the Toyota Courtesy Shuttle. He most recently worked at Toyota's rental division.

He was a member of the Gravinese Mutual Aid Society of Stamford and a communicant of St. Bridget's Church. He was a veteran of the US Navy having served in WWII and was a special Police Officer for the City of Stamford. Mathew had left school to join the Navy where he served for 2 years. He returned to school and graduated from Wright Technical School in 1962.

Mathew was married to his sweetheart, Marion (Masi) for 57 years before she passed away in 2006. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Phyllis and Eugene Lupinacci of Danbury; his son and �"favorite” daughter-in-law, Thomas and Michele Grande of Redding; his grandchildren, Nicholas and wife, Jeanette Lupinacci, of Brookfield; Alison Lupinacci and her fiancé, Michael Chun, of Danbury; Dana Grande of Providence, RI; Christopher Grande and his fiancé, Blanca Ayala; and Marissa and Jonathan Grande all of Redding; and his great-grandsons, Nicholas and Jan-Erik Lupinacci of Brookfield.

His sister, Catherine DiMarino of Newtown; his brother and sister-in-law, Guy and Joan Grande of Stamford; his sister and brother-in-law, Antoinette and Louis Cappiello; sisters-in-law Clara Grande of Stamford and Angelina Cassone of Armonk, NY; and many nieces and nephews also survive.

Besides his parents and wife, he was predeceased by a son, Nicholas; and his brother, Ralph Grande.

Friends may call at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, on Sunday, January 4 from 3:00 – 7:00 PM. A funeral procession will be leaving the funeral home at 10:20 AM on Monday, January 5 and proceed to St. Bridget of Ireland RC Church, 278 Strawberry Hill Avenue, Stamford, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at St. John Cemetery in Darien.
