Maureen Jean McGrath, 56, of Stamford, passed away peacefully at Stamford Hospital on October 18, 2014. Maureen was born in Albany, NY on January 20, 1958 to the late Bonnie J. Bowman and James E. McGrath, Jr.
Raised in Stamford, Maureen graduated from Rippowam High School, Class of 1976, and from Southern Connecticut State College, Class of 1980. Maureen was a camera operator for Satellite News Channel and later a broadcast technician for Group W Satellite Communications, both in Stamford. Maureen lived in North Palm Beach for ten years, during which she nursed her parents in their final illnesses. She returned to Stamford and waged her own battle with cancer.
Maureen is survived by her three sisters, Catherine McGrath (Sean Furey), Erin McGrath Morris, and Marilyn Martinez (Javier), three brothers, Michael (Maureen Osika), James (Mallory), and Sean (Lisa). She is also survived by her five nieces: Erin Furey, Emily Morris, Meghan McGrath, Kate McGrath and Sofia Martinez and six nephews; Michael, Patrick and Brennan McGrath, Matthew Morris, and Aidan and Colin McGrath.
In addition to her parents, Maureen is predeceased by her brother-in-law, Robert Morris.
A funeral procession will leave the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory on Wednesday October 22, 2014 at 9:15AM and proceed to St. Gabriel’s RC Church, 914 Newfield Avenue, Stamford, CT, for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00AM. Interment will follow at Queen of Peace RC Cemetery, Rockrimmon Road, Stamford. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday October 21, 2014 from 5:00 to 8:00PM.
