Michael P. Carella, 72, passed away Tuesday, November 24, 2009 after a very long battle with cancer. Born in Stamford on August 23, 1937, he was the son of Geraldo and Ventura Antoinette Mariano Carella.

Mr. Carella is survived by his lovely wife of 52 years, Audrey Walters Carella, his two loving children; Michael P., Jr. and his wife Gail Rafa Carella; and his daughter Robin L. and her husband Richard Cordero, all of Norwalk. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, whom he loved dearly; Michael and Kristofer Carella of Meriden and Kristen, Alexa and Richie Cordero of Norwalk; his brother, Edward Carella of West Hartford; and many wonderful and caring nieces and nephews, sister-in-laws and brother-in-laws and aunts and uncles.

Mike Graduated from St. Basil and prep school in 1955. He worked for Nabisco Company for 23 years before taking early retirement in 1990. He later worked for Home Depot in Norwalk until he became ill.
Mike’s first love was his beautiful family, and he also loved the Casino. He started playing baseball when he was 12 years old and played for the Little League. He later went on to play for the Little Big League in 1951 and the First Babe Ruth League in 1952. Mike then went on to play for the American Legion. He finished up his career with the Stamford Twilight league and Double A. League. Mike will be remembered, along with his teammates, for putting Stamford, Connecticut on the baseball map by winning the 1951 and 1952 Babe Ruth World Championship in Trenton, New Jersey.

Mike will be missed dearly by all who knew him.

A procession will be leaving the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, CT 06902, on Monday, November 30, 2009 at 9:10 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Jerome’s Church, 23 Half Mile Road, Norwalk, Connecticut, at 10:00 AM. Friends may visit on Sunday, November 29, 2009 from 3:00-7:00 PM at the funeral home. The interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Pulmonary Department or the Bennett Center, care of Stamford Hospital, 30 Shelburne Road, Stamford, Connecticut 06904, or the Visiting Nurses Hospice Care, 1029 East Main Street, Stamford, Connecticut 06902.
