Michael Joseph Conners

Michael J. Conners, a lifelong Stamford resident and graduate of Stamford High School, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 16th at the age of 85.

Born in Stamford, Michael was the beloved only child of the late Michael and Annie (Nancy) Conners. He was raised in a three-family home with his father’s sibling’s families. He had over 50 first cousins who were like brothers and sisters.

Michael graduated from Stamford High School and worked for many years at Petro Home Services. After retirement, he would be seen working the election polls and as the school crossing guard at Rippowam School. Michael also enjoyed road trips for car shows, Wilbur chocolates, and lobster rolls.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 60 years, Betty Jane; daughters Sharon and husband Eric Zuidema, and Kim Petillo; grandsons Angelo Petillo and his wife Justina, and Michael Petillo.

Calling hours will take place on the morning of Thursday, August 27, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 12 PM at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home, 104 Myrtle Ave., Stamford, CT. A prayer service will be held at 12 PM with a procession to the interment at St. John Cemetery in Darien, CT to follow.
