Michael “Mike” Lawrence Docimo, 84 of Stamford, CT passed away on Tuesday, July 13, 2010 at the Richard L. Rosenthal Hospice Residence in Stamford, CT. Born on October 5, 1925 in the Cos Cob area of Greenwich, CT, he was the son of the late Lawrence and Rosaria Infanti Docimo. He graduated from Greenwich High School in 1944 and during his high school years and beyond, Mike was an avid saxophone player and enjoyed playing his favorite type of music, big band, in a local group.

Mike was a proud member of the Army's 349th Reinforcement Company, 105th Reinforcement Battalion during World War II from 1944-1946. He survived a bullet wound on the front lines of Germany and was awarded the European African Middle Eastern Campaign and World War II Victory Medals. After returning home, Mike married Anita Tedesco in 1949 and celebrated 50 years of marriage before her death in 1999. He enjoyed a long career as a City of Stamford Operations Foreman and worked in the butchering trade. He was a dedicated family man who cherished his wife and only son Michael Anthony of Stamford, CT. He enjoyed working hard, going for walks and spending time with his son and his daughter in law Rebecca and especially his new grandson Michael Jake, born October 12, 2010. Mike was also a lifelong fan of golf and baseball.

Mike is survived by his son, Michael “Mickey” Docimo and his wife Rebecca and their son, Michael Jake Benjamin Anthony Docimo, of Stamford; his sister, Linda Jean Docimo of Stamford. Many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

In addition to his wife and parents, Mike was also predeceased by his sister, Loretta Surmacziewicz.

A funeral procession will be leaving the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, CT 06902 at 9:10AM on Friday, July 16, 2010 for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00AM at Our Lady Star of the Sea RC Church, 1200 Shippan Avenue, Stamford, CT 06902. Interment will follow at Queen of Peace RC Cemetery, Rockrimmon Rd., Stamford. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday, July 15, 2010 from 4:00-8:00PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in Michael’s name to the Alzheimer Associations, CT Chapter, 279 New Britain Road, Suite 5, Kensington, CT 06037.
