Michael J. Giordano, 86, passed away at The Richard Rosenthal Hospice, Stamford on Saturday, May 20, 2006. Born in Stamford on May 14, 1920, he is the son of the late Egilio and Venera Toto Giordano and husband of the late Rose Graziano Giordano.
Mr. Giordano was employed with Local 478 as a Heavy Equipment Operator with various contractors in Stamford. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps during the Depression, then the National Guard of Connecticut, following which he proudly served his country during World War II serving in the Pacific Theatre as a member of the U.S. Army Air Corps . Many will remember him as an avid walker at Cove Island Park for over twenty years.
Mr. Giordano is survived by four brothers, Ralph P. Giordano and his wife Rose of
Stamford, James V. Giordano and his wife Betty of Shelton, City of Stamford Rep. Philip J. Giordano, D-10 and his wife Marion and former Mayor of Stamford, Bruno E. Giordano of Atlantic City, New Jersey. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
Besides his wife and parents, Mr. Giordano was predeceased by his sister, Angelina Ferullo and his brothers, Angelo and Frank Giordano.
A Funeral Procession will leave the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory 104 Myrtle Ave. Stamford on Wed. May 24, 2006 at 9:20 AM and proceed to St. John the Evangelist Church 279 Atlantic St. Stamford for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at St. John RC Cemetery Darien, CT.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made in Mr. Giordanos name to either the Visiting Nurse and Hospice Care 1029 E. Main St. Stamford, CT 06902 or St. John the Evangelist RC Church Roof Restoration Fund 279 Atlantic St. Stamford, 06901.
