Michael J. Obzud
Michael J. Obzud, a lifelong Stamford resident, died Wednesday, May 3 at Stamford Hospital. He was 87. He died of complications from a stroke according to his family. Born December 30, 1918 he was a son of, the late Joseph and Mary Bajus Obzud. He graduated from Stamford High School in 1936. A World War II veteran, Mr. Obzud enlisted in the Marines in 1942. After training at Parris Island he was shipped to the Pacific theater where he served in the campaigns at Bougainville and Guam. Mr. Obzud began working at Yale & Towne in 1938 and continued until they relocated from Stamford in the early 1950s. He also worked at Atlas Power and Union Trust Bank. He was a member of St. John Roman Catholic Church of Stamford. Mr. Obzud is survived by a niece and two nephews; Maureen Fowley of Pine Hurst, North Carolina, John M. Boesen, Cambridge, Massachusetts and James A. Boesen, Vernon, Connecticut
Calling hours will be from 8:30 9:30 a.m. on Monday, May 8, at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Ave., Stamford. A funeral procession will then leave at 9:40 a.m. and proceed to St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church of Stamford, 279 Atlantic St., for a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow at St. John Roman Catholic Cemetery, 25 Camp Ave., Darien. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the Stamford Health Foundation, 9 West Broad Street, 9th Floor, Stamford, CT 06902 or to St. John Roman Catholic Church. www.cognetta.com
