Michael P. Vartuli

Michael P. Vartuli of Greenwich, CT, 78, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, July 17, 2008. Born May 17, 1930 in Arena, Italy, he was the son of the late Antonino and Marianna Sorbara Vartuli.
Michael emigrated from Italy in 1951 at the age of 21. He was the true American success story. He began work as a carpenter and later became a well known residential and commercial builder in the Stamford and Greenwich area. He was instrumental in the rebirth of downtown Stamfords business center.
He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Mary A. Vartuli; children, Anne Vartuli Cadwell and her husband Jim of Oakland, CA; Julie Vartuli Gibian and her husband Jim of Old Greenwich, CT; Anthony Vartuli and his wife Diane of Centennial, CO. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren whom he adored, Nina and Will Gibian; Michael, Giovanna and Julia Vartuli; and Hayden Cadwell; brothers, Vincent Vartuli of Greenwich; Pasqualino Vartuli of Vibo Valentia Italy; sisters, Teresa, Mariuccia, and Caterina, also of Vibo Valentia Italy.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday, August 1, 2008 at Church of St. Cecilia, 1184 Newfield Avenue, Stamford at 10:00 AM. Burial will take place in Italy at a later date.
