Mildred �"Millie” Pierne Scipioni Perillo, 81, passed away on Monday, June 11, 2007, surrounded by her family, at Stamford Hospital. Born October 18, 1925 in Stamford, she was the daughter of the late Phillip and May Smith Pierne.

Millie owned and operated, with her late husband Alfred �"Curly” Perillo, the Hillcrest Variety Store for 50 years. She and Curly were the first husband and wife team to serve on both committees for the Democratic City Committee and the Board of Representatives, representing the 9th district for 19 years. She was very active in politics, and served on many committees. She was the chairwoman of the appointments committee and was assistant majority leader. Her time was devoted to the care of her husband, her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She loved cooking and baking for them and teaching them how to cook. Spending as much time with them as possible was important to her. Millie loved reading, and doing all kinds of puzzles. She also enjoyed gardening, dancing, going to Las Vegas and was a devoted Yankee fan. Millie also belonged to the National Council of Senior Citizens of Belltown.

She is survived by three daughters, Linda Melfi of Stamford; Vicky O’Connor and her husband Bob of Norwalk; and Debby Cappiello and her husband John of Darien; a son, Alfred J. Perillo of Stamford; grandchildren, Eddie Melfi, Jr.and his wife Tanya; Lisa May Melfi; Alison Soto and her husband Joe; Justin O’Connor; Brendan O’Connor; John Cappiello, Jr.; and Jorden Marie Cappiello; and great-grandchildren, Kayla, Alexis, Abby, Chloe, Eddie III, Juliana, and Jo Jo.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband, John J. Scipioni who died at Walter Reed Hospital in Washington on Nov. 16, 1944; and her second husband, Alfred �"Curly” Perillo who died on Aug. 11, 2001 after 51 years of marriage; three brothers and two sisters.

Friends may call at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, on Wednesday, June 13, 2007 from 4:00 – 8:00 PM. A funeral procession will be leaving the funeral home at 10:20 AM on Thursday, June 14, 2007 and proceed to St. Matthew RC Church, Scribner Avenue, Norwalk where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM. Entombment will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Norwalk.
