Milton A. “Ole” Anderson, 88, passed away on Wednesday, August 5, 2009 at his home in Stamford. Born December 10, 1920 in Stamford, he was the son of the late Martin and Hilda Johnson Anderson. Milton was a teacher in the Stamford Public School System for over forty years, with most of his career spent at Dolan Middle School.
Milton was a graduate of Stamford High School, Class of 1939, where he was Captain of the Basketball and Football Teams. Milton was an All-State End and received a full scholarship for the University of Villanova. Prior to attending Villanova, he prepared at NY Military Academy for one year. After two years at Villanova, Milton enlisted in the US Navy in 1942, as he felt it was his patriotic duty to serve his country. He signed a letter of intent to play professional football for the then, Los Angeles Rams, prior to enlisting in the Navy. He became a ninety day wonder where he attended Columbia University of which he graduated a Commissioned Officer, rank of Ensign. He was assigned to the USS Charles Ausburne DD-570, a Destroyer in the Little Beaver Squadron. After being discharged from the US Navy in 1946, where he earned the American Theatre Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Ribbon, and Victory Ribbons, Milton then returned to Villanova where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Education in 1948.
He is survived by four sons, Richard M. Anderson of Stamford; Mark J. Anderson of Stamford; Timothy E. Anderson of New Canaan; and Michael C. Anderson of Stamford; two daughters, Barbara Anderson Rosta of Bristol; and Peggy A. Lueders of New Canaan; thirteen grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Anna Elizabeth “Betty” Anderson; a son, Terrance A. Anderson; and his brothers and sisters.
Friends may call at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, on Sunday, August 9 from 3:00 �" 7:00 PM. A funeral procession will be leaving the funeral home at 9:10 AM on Monday, August 10 and proceed to Church of St. Cecilia, 1184 Newfield Avenue, Stamford, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am. Interment will follow at St. John Cemetery in Darien.
