Muriel S. Carlson, 91, a lifelong resident of Stamford passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, October 31, 2012 at Stamford Hospital. She was born in Stamford on September 17, 1921 to the late George A. and Mary Butler Smith.
Muriel was an active member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court # 82, a longtime member of the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians (LAOH). She also taught CCD at Our Lady Star of the Sea RC Church for many years and was an executive secretary for several years prior to becoming a lifelong homemaker.
She is survived by her loving children, William G. Carlson and his wife Deborah of Derby, CT, Bruce V. Carlson and his wife Hazel of Norwalk, Linda C. Dunn and her husband Gerald of Norwalk, Brian T. Carlson of Stamford; four grandchildren, Scott D. Carlson and his wife Terri, Craig R. Carlson and his wife Kristin, Jennifer D. Hawkins and her husband Christian and Michael W. Dunn and his wife Jennifer and five great grandchildren. Also surviving are her two brothers George T. Smith and his wife Nancy of Stamford and Pierce V. Smith and his wife Donna of North Carolina.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her loving husband William A. Carlson and her brother Thomas B. Smith.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 7, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Our Lady Star of the Sea RC Church, 1200 Shippan Avenue, Stamford. Interment will follow at St. John’s Cemetery, Darien. Family and friends may call at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, CT 06902 on Tuesday, November 6, 2012 from 4:00-8:00 PM.
