Nancy L. Smalter, 54, of Darien, passed away suddenly on October 17, 2008. Born in Bridgeport, CT, on March 6, 1954, she was the daughter of Robert Krom and the late Natalie J. Arone Krom.
Nancy lived no more than 30 miles from where she was born her whole life. Having lived in Orange, Milford, Trumbull and Stamford, Nancy had for the last 25 years of her life lived in Darien. After having fallen in her home on Tuesday, Nancy was admitted to the Stamford Hospital ICU where she died on Friday. Her death resulted from complications of a brain injury sustained in the fall.
Nancy was a beloved mother, daughter and a friend to many. Nancy attended Berkley Secretarial School in White Plains and had been employed at the YWCA of Darien/Norwalk since 1997.
She is survived by her daughter Emily, a freshman at Western New England College, her life partner Robert Andrews, and her father Robert Krom.
In addition to her mother, she was predeceased by her brother, Kenneth B. Krom.
A Memorial Service will be held at St. Thomas More Church, 374 Middlesex Road, Darien, at 10:00 am on Saturday, October 25. Nancy had requested to be cremated, and as a tribute to her love of the ocean, her ashes will be scattered off the coast. Arrangements are being handled by the Nicholas F.
