Nedra Williams
February 5, 1943 — November 22, 2012
Nedra L. Williams was born on February 5, 1943 in Puerto Limon, Costa Rica to her late parents, Kermit Rowe and Charles Edwin Smith. She was the second oldest of 5 children.
She spent a good portion of her childhood in Limon with her grandmother before moving to Bocas del Toro, Panama where she met and married her husband of 49 years, Rufos Williams and together raised 4 beautiful children.
In 1974 her husband Rufos migrated to the United States and Nedra followed shortly after that. First landing in Philadelphia, PA then they moved to Mt. Vernon, NY and finally settled in Stamford, CT where they’ve resided with their children for over 35 years.
Although she never got a formal education past the 6th grade, Nedra loved reading and watching all types of educational programs. She enjoyed the game show Jeopardy and could have easily been a contestant. She also enjoyed cooking, crossword puzzles and jigsaw puzzles and most importantly taking care of her family.
Nedra worked as a Nurse’s Aide for over 20 years at the Smith House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center until her retirement in 2005.
After surviving lung, colon and breast cancer, she lost her battle with Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease on November 22, 2012. Nedra Williams was indeed a fighter and survived many battles throughout her life, but the time came the battle was put in God’s hands.
Nedra shared her life with her loving husband Rufos Williams, son Rufus Alberto, daughters Shayla, Carla and Nitzel. She also leaves to cherish her memory, four grandchildren, Alex, Talia, Malik and Brianna. Brothers Lestan, Jaime, Antonio and her younger sister Beverly along with a host of other relatives and friends.
