Nicol (Nicki) Varias, 38, fell asleep in the Lord on Monday, June 25, 2012. Born on January 6, 1974 in Longbranch, NJ to Adamantios Varias and Haroula Xenakis of Greece.
Besides her loving parents, Nicol is survived by her loving brother Simon Varias of Greece, a loving sister Anna Varias of Newtown along with many aunts,uncles, cousins and countless friends in the U.S and Greece.
Nicki attended Stamford High School and was a graduating member of the Class of 1992. She later studied business administration at Sacred Heart University and went on to pursue a career in the corporate sector. An avid volleyball player, Nicki played for Stamford High School’s Varsity Team and the CT Eastern Orthodox Volleyball League(CEOVL). Her love for the sport continued into her adulthood where she regularly played in local tournaments.
Nicki was a longstanding and beloved member of the Greek Orthodox Church of the Archangels in Stamford. She volunteered her time and talents to the church community by coaching the church’s volleyball team and teaching in the Church School program for several years. Nicki was also a lead dancer for the CT Chapter Paidea Dance Group performing regionally from 1998-2000. She found a deep enjoyment in sharing her passion for her Greek heritage, including its language, music and customs including movies, writing poetry, technology and most importantly, cultivating authentic and lasting relationships with all around her, particularly the Young Adult League of the Greek community(YAL).
Nicki ‘s smile was infectious, her beauty remarkable and her heart giving and selfless. Her memory will be eternal in the hearts of those who met her and the lives imprinted by her gentle and caring spirit.
Family and friends may meet at the Church of the Archangels, 1527 Bedford Street, Stamford, on Monday, July 2, 2012 from 5:00-6:00 PM with a Greek Orthodox Trisagion Service to be celebrated at 6:00 PM by Rev. George Poulos. A Greek burial service will take place in Chios, Greece.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Nicki’s memory to the Greek Children’s Cancer Fund, C/O 12 Houston Terrace, Stamford, CT 06902.
