Obediah Rosencratz Miller ”Bud”, passed away peacefully into eternal life on September 25, 2014 with his wife Felicia and his daughters by his side. He was born in Erwin, Tennessee on June 5, 1934 to the late George and Myrtle Paul Miller.
Bud earned his B.S Degree from East Tennessee State University in 1956 and his J.D. from Stetson University College of Law in 1959. He was a member of The Florida Bar and the State Bar of Texas. He also studied business management at Duke University ‘s Fuqua School of Business. He worked for the Florida Attorney General’s Office, the NLRB in Washington, DC and Tampa, Florida. He was called into active duty in the National Guard during the “Berlin Crisis” working in the JAG office at Ft. Stewart, Georgia. In 1967 he began his long career with Texaco, Inc in Houston, Texas and New York, retiring as senior Attorney in 1998. One of his retirement plans was to become more involved with his Church. For more than 42 years he held many positions in the Church, including Lay Leader. Bud spent as much time preparing to teach Adult Bible Study classes as he did preparing legal briefs. He was a tinkerer, a “do it yourself” person who believed that “if you can read, you can do” and he did. A man of varied skills, working with his hands was therapy for him. Bud was also a member of the Stamford Mens Association and the Italian Center.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Felicia Wozniak Miller as well as his daughters, Celeste Bouton and her husband Michael, Valerie Parrella and her husband Kevin and Michelle Winthrop and her husband James; five grandchildren, Ryan and Jeffrey Bouton, Kathryn and Meghan Parrella and Christopher Winthrop. Also surviving are two sisters Marylyn Birchfiel and GeorgeAnn Holly, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Bud was predeceased by his sisters, Alleene Geisler and Mary Nell Vance.
A funeral service will be celebrated at the Stamford Baptist Church, 602 High Ridge Road, Stamford on Tuesday, September 30, 2014 at 11:00 AM. Interment will be private and there will be no calling hours. The Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory is handling the arrangements.
