Olga Athanasiadis, 86 years of age, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday evening, February 18, 2021. A long-time resident of Stamford, Olga was born June 20, 1934 in Kilkis, Greece to the late Neofitos and Rebecca Papadopoulou.
As a child in Greece, Olga spent a lot of time with her father at the railyard developing a fascination for trains. Olga and her sister Sofia worked in their own tailor shop as talented seamstresses. In 1962, she married her beloved husband and together they decided to take an adventure to America. She held various positions at Norman Hoffman, Capitol Records, FAG Bearings and the family business, Donut Delight. Olga was a very hard-working woman who was dedicated to her family. She would always start her day with a Greek coffee and a walk in her neighborhood. She prepared delicious meals daily using fresh vegetables she grew in her garden where she spent a lot of her time. Olga was devoted to her Greek Orthodox faith and Greek culture. She baked prosforo, attended Divine Liturgy every Sunday and insisted her children attend Greek school. Nothing gave her more joy and happiness than spending time with her grandchildren and doting over them. After retirement, she enjoyed visiting her relatives in Greece every summer. During the winter she looked forward to going on annual cruises with her husband and friends. She had a warm and cheerful personality and she welcomed everyone to her home. She cherished spending afternoons with her friends, drinking Greek coffee, reminiscing about Greece, cracking jokes and having fun with the “flitzani”. She loved Greek music and you would always find her dancing the zebekiko at the end of an evening of fun. Now she will be dancing with the angels.
Olga is survived by her loving husband Vasili, her son Pantelis (wife Georgia and grandchild Maria Olga) and her daughter Rebecca (husband Savvas and grandchildren Vasili and Vangeli). She is also survived by her sister Sotiria Papadopoulou in Katerini, Greece. Olga was preceded in death by her parents and sister Sofia Kiourmoutzi.
