OTTAVIO “JOHN” LOMEDICO departed this earth peacefully on Monday, February 16, in Greenwich, CT, after a short illness. John was born December 8, 1926 in the Bronx, N.Y. to Joseph LoMedico and Anna Barone. Raised in the Bronx, John served in the occupational forces in the US Army in Japan during WWII. The youngest of seven children, John made family his highest priority and taught his five children to do the same by his example. He adored his wife Annabel and was happiest teasing her and making her laugh. Though a city boy, he discovered skiing, golf, fishing, woodworking and shared these loves with his children. John LoMedico was an innovator in his field changing the way sky scrapers where constructed in the 1970’s. He could design in either steel or concrete, but really made his mark in tall concrete structures. Some of his best work can be seen in Boston including the Hyatt Regency in Cambridge, Charles River Park apartments and the Harbor Towers on Boston Harbor which is now indelibly part of Boston’s skyline. His work took him around the globe. His finger prints can be found on buildings in Paris, Netherlands, Ecuador, Puerto Rico, Abu Dhabi, Taiwan and Canada. He is survived by his sister, Carmela Atkinson of Ridgefield, CT, sister-in-law, Angela Soccodato of Mt. Vernon, N.Y.; five children, John Joseph LoMedico (Elizabeth) of Andover, Mass., Annalisa DiNucci (John) of Stamford, Julia LoMedico Pollock (Larry) of Shaker Heights, Ohio, Jamie MacMullen (Brian) of Brookfield, Thomas Adam (Jennifer) of Heathrow, Fla.; sixteen grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren and many beloved nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Annabel, his parents, his brothers, Joseph and Phillip, and his sisters Betty Mendola, Angie Ingenito, and Helen Rella.
