PALMA ANN (BUZZEO) SMERIGLIO, age 91, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 25, 2016 in Milton, MA, surrounded by her loving family. Palma was a long-time resident of Stamford, CT where she was born on June 10, 1924. Beloved wife of 60 years to the late Anthony P. Smeriglio, Sr., she was the daughter of the late Pasquale and Maria (Carella) Buzzeo who immigrated from Settefrati, Italy, and the adoring sister of the late Anthony Buzzeo. In her later years, she resided in New Milford, CT with her daughter’s family and with her son’s family in Hingham, MA.
In her earlier years Palma was a proud member of the Holy Rosary Society of Sacred Heart Church in Stamford. She loved to read, knit and crochet. Most of all she enjoyed the company of her family and friends, particularly when she was entertaining them at her home and in her beautiful yard. In her later years, Palma enjoyed her daily visits to Harbor House Senior Center in Hingham, listening to Italian music and books on tape, and reminiscing and story-telling with family and friends.
Palma devoted her life to being a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by her two loving children: daughter, Sara Conte and her husband, Michael, of New Milford; and son, Anthony P. Smeriglio, Jr. and his wife, Eileen (Thomes), of Hingham; four cherished granddaughters: Allyson Drahota, Andrea Lorenz, Meghan Smeriglio-Potter, and Kristen Smeriglio; four precious great-grandchildren: Jenna and Lia Drahota and Brandon and Christopher Lorenz; a dear cousin: Maria (Buzzeo) Cupo and her family; and many nieces and nephews who were very close to her.
