Paul Gerard Guilbert, 79, passed away after a brief illness, at the Richard Rosenthal Hospice Residence, on Thursday, February 23, 2006. Born on January 2, 1927, in his parents home in Springdale, he was the son of the late Arthur C. and Marie Germaine Maynard Guilbert. He later attended Springdale and Burdick schools, having graduated from Stamford High School, Class of 1944.
Paul enlisted in the United States Navy in December 1944, became a Plank Owner of the USS Spokane, and discharged March 1947 as a Signalman 3rd Class. In April 1948, Paul went to work for the Southern New England Telephone Company, retiring as a Central Office Technician in December 1987 after 39 years of service. He was a member of Springdale VFW Post 9617 of which all members are requested to report for a 5:00 PM wake service. He also served as a Eucharistic Minister for St. Marys RC Church.
On May 26, 1951 he married Jean Marie McKary at Sacred Heart Church in the Byram section of Greenwich. Together they have three children and four grandchildren.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his son, Paul Jr. and his wife Marybeth Panapada Guilbert of Pleasant Prairie, WI, and their children Paul III, Douglas W. and Traci Marie Guilbert; two daughters, Barbara Ann Marie and her husband Charles Romans, and their son Alexander C. Romans of Stamford; and Debra Jane Guilbert of Stamford. He is also survived by a brother Norman Guilbert of Greenwich.
Besides his parents he is predeceased by a brother Raymond Guilbert.
A funeral procession will be leaving the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, on Monday February 27 at 8:10 AM, then proceed to St. Marys RC Church, 566 Elm Street, Stamford, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 AM. Interment will follow at Greenwood Union Cemetery, Rye, NY. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday February 26 from 4:00 8:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Visiting Nurse Hospice Care, 1029 East Main Street, Stamford, CT 06902, or the charity of ones choice.
