It is with an extremely heavy heart that we announce the sudden passing of Paul Edward Hamernik on the morning of July 17, 2025 in Groton, CT., after a brief illness. Paul was 62 years old.
Paul Edward Hamernik was born on December 30, 1962, to the late Mary and Edward Hamernik. Paul attended St. Cecilia Parochial School, Dolan Middle School and graduated from J.M. Wright Technical School in 1981. He attended College briefly before embarking on his various careers.
Paul worked for several companies including The Photolab of Stamford, The Gartner Group and Pipeline Productions. Paul also worked as a carpenter for several construction companies and as an electrician before opening his own landscaping business, PH Home Landscaping in 1995. Paul was an avid photographer & an outdoor enthusiast who enjoyed day trips. His optimistic outlook on life was infectious.
Paul is predeceased by his loving parents, Mary (Ulatowski) and Edward Hamernik, Grandparents, Pauline & John Ulatowski & Rozalia & Florian Hamernik, Uncle Vinny & Doris Ulatowski (Cousin Linda), Uncle Joe & Angie Ulatowski, Aunts, Millie, Ann, Sister Ellen & Sophie Hamernik, Uncles, Mike, Anthony, Father Peter, Joseph, Walter & Frank Hamernik, Aunt Mary & Frank Magda (Cousins Elaine & Corrine), Aunt Helen & Ted Jamroga & Brother in-law, John Morrell.
He is survived by his sister Mary Ann Morrell & niece Stephanie Morrell, sister Diane Hamernik, her significant other, Dean Corello, Cousins Joey & Johnny Ulatowski, David & Tommy Jamroga, Frances Magda, Frank Magda (wife Carol) & several 2nd & 3rd cousins.
A funeral procession will leave the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, CT on Friday July 25, 2025 at 10:00 AM and proceed to St. Cecilia RC Church, 1184 Newfield Avenue, Stamford, CT for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:30 AM. Internment will follow at St. John’s Cemetery, Darien, CT. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday, July 24, 2025 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Paul’s memory, to a charity of one’s choice.
