Paula “Pota” Condos, 85, a long time resident of Stamford, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, October 4, 2015 at Stamford Hospital after a long illness with pancreatic cancer. She was born in Greece on August 5, 1930 to the late Peter and Dimitra Kanaras Chafoulias.
Paula was the third oldest in a family of six children and grew up in Greece and then emigrated to the United States at the age of twenty in 1951, where she married and raised her family in Stamford. She was a long-time member of the Greek Orthodox Church of the Archangels and the Ladies Philoptochos Society. Paula also was an Assembler and Inspector at Pitney Bowes for over ten years, through the 1980’s, having retired in the early 1990’s. Her passion was cooking and baking, and she often made pastries for friends, church bake sales, and Philoptochos functions. She adored her grandchildren and a favorite time for them was Sunday lunch at “yiayia’s”for her never-ending pot of spaghetti and meatballs. She loved having coffee with her sisters and frequently hosted get-togethers to stay close. Paula always looked out for others and was very loyal and protective of her family and friends. She will be terribly missed by her children and all who knew her.
She is survived by her loving sons, Harry Condos, Peter Condos and his wife Roberta, her loving daughter, Tina Condos Zsembik and four grandchildren, Allison and Sarah Zsembik and Nicholas and Kathleen Condos. Also surviving are her sisters, Popi Demakos, Freida Bitzonis and her husband Telly, Helen Chochos, her brother George Lines and his wife Angie, and her “adopted” sister Mary Lambrinakos, as well as many nieces and nephews.
