Peter Melonakos
March 28, 1931 — September 10, 2015
Peter Melonakos, 84, of Stamford passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 10, 2015 surrounded by his loving family at Regency of Stamford. He was born in New York City on March 28, 1931 to the late Constantine and Georgia Aposporos Melonakos.
Peter was a graduate of Stamford High School, Class of 1949 and was a veteran of the Korean War, having served in the US Army as a Corporal from 1953-1960. Peter was a Clerk at the US Postal Service for many years before retiring in 1991.
He is survived by his devoted wife Margaret Luberto Melonakos of Stamford, his sister Helen Comilli of PA, his brother in law and sister in law Michael and Adeline Macri, nieces, Ann, Gia, Dina, LoriAnn and nephews Jimmy, Dino, Michael, Bobby and John, as well as many cousins.
Besides his parents, Peter was predeceased by his brothers Ted and Jack Melonakos.
A funeral procession will be leaving the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford on Tuesday, September 15, 2015 at 9:30 AM for a funeral service to be celebrated at 10:00 AM at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 1230 Newfield Avenue, Stamford. Interment will follow at St. John’s RC Cemetery, Darien. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Monday, September 14, 2015 from 4:00-8:00 PM with a Trisagion service at 7:00 PM.
