Philip J. Gambino “Philly Boy”, 71, a lifelong resident of Stamford passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Monday, May 21, 2012 at Stamford Hospital. Born on March 29, 1941 in Stamford to the late Vincent P. and Rose Loglisci Gambino.
Phil was employed at Elmrite, Petro and Northfield Fuel Companies as an Oil Burner Technician for many years before his retirement. He was a member of St. Mary’s RC Church, Knights of Columbus, 4th Degree, where he was a 52 year member and an eleven year member of the Benevolent & Protective Order of the Elks and also G. Cabatos and C. Columbo Club of Harrison, NY. He was also a member of the Gravinese Mutual Aid Society.
Phil is survived by his loving wife Stephanie Mierisch Gambino of Stamford, his loving daughters Rose Colangelo and her husband Lenny of Stamford, Michele McEwen and her husband Gary of Oxford and Joey Smith and her husband Chris of Norwalk; his loving sister Josephine Caruso and her husband Dan of Stamford; eight loving grandchildren and niece Debra Bova and her husband Taylor. Several great nieces and nephews also survive.
A funeral procession will leave Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, CT 06902 on Thursday, May 24, 2012 at 9:15AM, then to Saint Mary RC Church, 566 Elm Street, Stamford, CT 06902 for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 AM. Private interment will be at St. John’s RC Cemetery at a later date. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday(TODAY), May 23, 2012 from 5:00 to 8:00PM.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in Philip Gambino’s name to The Knights of Columbus Scholarship Fund, 507 Shippan Avenue, Stamford, CT 06902.
