Philip A. Murphy, Jr., 83, formerly of Stamford, passed away peacefully on Friday October 4, 2013 at The Nathaniel Witherall Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, with his loving family by his side. Philip was born on May 5, 1930 in Brooklyn, NY to the late Philip and Margaret Carey Murphy, Sr.
Philip served in the United States Army during the Korean War, having received the Purple Heart Medal. Philip worked as a printer at Pitney Bowes for forty years and then, after retiring, returned as a consultant and later as a security guard.
Philip is survived by his loving wife Betty Rossillo Murphy; his two sons, Philip A. Murphy III and his wife Kristin, of Norwalk and Fr. Richard Murphy of Stratford, Pastor of Our Lady of Peace RC Church. He is also survived by his three daughters Elizabeth Heiman and her husband Dwight, of Needham, MA, Rosemary McDonald and her husband Pat of Sandy Hook and Margaret Fraioli and her husband Marc, of Stamford. His eight grandchildren also survive.
A funeral procession will leave the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue on Wednesday October 9, 2013 at 9:40AM and proceed to St. Mary’s RC Church, 566 Elm Street, Stamford, for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00AM, with his son Fr. Richard Murphy officiating. Interment will follow at Queen of Peace Cemetery, Rockrimmon Road, Stamford. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday October 8, 2013 from 4:00 to 8:00PM.
