Philip John Striano, 91, of Stamford, passed away peacefully at home Tuesday, May 13, 2008. Born on November 15, 1916 in Brooklyn, New York, he was the son of the late Joseph and Gatana Pocchini Striano. He is a Veteran of the United States Army having served in World War II.
His hobbies surrounded his passion for classic cars, ballroom dancing and all things mechanical. He was an owner of classic T-Birds and a Cord. Mr. Striano enjoyed restoring old cars, researching various parts, and exhibiting his handiwork in car shows
throughout the tri-state area. Mr. Striano routinely won first place, People's Choice and Best in the Show.
Mr. Striano is survived by his wife, Christine Zajkowski Striano; a daughter, Jacqueline Striano, of Boston, MA; two sons, Joseph Striano and his wife Maureen of Rocky Point, NY, and Ralph Striano and his wife Josephine of Long Beach, NJ; a sister, Josephine Oberstein; four brothers, Anthony, Gerald, Ralph and Salvatore Striano; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he is pre-deceased by a brother Vincent Striano.
Friends may call at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, on Friday, May 16 from 4 8 PM. A funeral procession will leave from the funeral home at 8:20 AM on Saturday, May 17, and proceed to St. Leos Church, 24 Roxbury Road, Stamford, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:00 AM. Interment to follow at St. Johns Cemetery, Darien.
