Philip Joseph Uva, Sr., a longtime resident of Norwalk, CT, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, May 23, 2026, surrounded by his loving family and friends. He was 81 years old.
Born and raised in Stamford, CT, Phil later moved to Norwalk, where he proudly resided for the past 35 years. A dedicated family man, he shared 61 beautiful years of marriage with his beloved spouse, Claudia Jane (Glass) Uva. Together, they built a life centered on family, hard work, and community.
A proud member of the Teamsters Union 191, Phil spent over six decades on the road in a distinguished truck driving career. He began his journey working for Roadway Express out of Stamford for 25 years, later moving on to Marshalls Express for 15 years, and lastly dedicating over 20 years to B & S Carting. Known for his work ethic and reliability, Phil was a respected figure among his peers.
Beyond his career, Phil’s true passion lay in sports, most notably baseball and golf. In his youth, he was a renowned and formidable baseball player, lighting up the diamond in the Stamford National Little League during the late 1950s, followed by standout years in the Stamford Babe Ruth and Stamford Senior Babe Ruth leagues in the early 1960s. His love for the game didn't end when his playing days did; Phil went on to share his knowledge and passion with the next generation, serving as a dedicated, longtime coach in the Springdale Little League, Stamford National Babe Ruth, and Stamford Senior Babe Ruth for over 20 years.
As time went on, his competitive spirit shifted to the golf course. Phil was a longtime, legendary member of the Italian Center Men’s Golf Club League. His name became synonymous with the league's championship leaderboards, first winning a title in 1993 with partner Leroy Mallozzi, and later dominating the course alongside partner Alex Lionetti to capture multiple championships in 2005, 2008, 2009, 2011, 2012, 2014, 2016, and 2018. Over his lifetime of golfing, Phil achieved a feat many golfers only dream of—recording three holes-in-one.
Phil’s greatest legacy, however, remains his family. He was predeceased by his beloved parents, Josephine (D'Amico) Uva and John Uva.
In addition to his wife Claudia, he is survived by his devoted children, Philip Joseph Uva, Jr. (PJ) and his spouse Lia (Manesiotis) Uva of Norwalk, CT, and David John Uva and his spouse Nancy (Loiaconi) Uva of Oxford, CT. He was the immensely proud grandfather to Philip Joseph Uva, III, Evangelos Michael Uva, Claudia Sophia Uva, Paige Ashley Uva, Tyler David Uva, and Ryan Anthony Uva. He also leaves behind his loving siblings, Barbara (Uva) Salamon of Wilmington, NC, Donald Uva ahd his wife Phyllis of Norwalk, CT, Jo-an Uva of Stamford, CT, and John Uva of New Rochelle, NY, as well as numerous beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and close friends who will miss him dearly.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, June 1, 2026 at 11:00 AM, at St. Jerome RC Church, 23 Half Mile Road, Norwalk, CT. Interment will be private.
