Rachel Anne Sottosanti, 19, of Stamford, CT, passed away on Friday, April 24, 2009. Born in Greenwich, CT, on November 15, 1989, she was the daughter of David V. Sottosanti.
Rachel lived life with a passion for many things, starting off with softball. Her career started in the Stamford Babe Ruth League at age 7 and lead her through to be a 3 year Varsity Starting Short Stop for Westhill High School, Senior Captain, and Team MVP. Not only did she play in high school but participated as a stand out player on many travel teams throughout the years. She also played on the Varsity Basketball team for Westhill for 3 years. As Rae entered college, her sports interests grew and introduced her to Rugby, as she enjoyed learning and playing for 2 years. Scoring her first “TRY” last weekend. Academically, Rachel was the recipient of many scholarships and continued to excel during her time at Southern Connecticut State University, making the Dean’s List every semester. Rae was a member of the Future Business Leaders of America.
Continually giving back to her community by volunteering her time, she coached Stamford Youth Softball and Stamford Young Timers Basketball, where she passed down her love and knowledge of the games.
Rae always had a smile on her face and a kind word for anyone. She had a big heart and always put others before herself. Those who knew Rae were truly blessed to have known such a special person. She would do anything for anyone at anytime, you could always count on her. She will always be remembered and greatly missed. Thank you for touching so many lives in so many ways. Always in our hearts. We Love You Rae.
In addition to her father, she is survived by her sisters, Dayna, Erin and Leah Sottosanti all of Stamford; her paternal grandmother, Lena Sottosanti of Old Greenwich; her Aunt and Uncle Catherine & John Squillace of Greenwich; Uncle Guido Sottosanti of Bethel; Uncle Richard Sottosanti of New York; Aunt and Uncle Colleen & Scott Nastahowski of Greenwich; and 5 cousins, Bethany & Gregory Sottosanti, Scott Jr., and Shane & Courtney Nastahowski.
Family and friends may call at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, on Wednesday, April 29 from 4-8 PM.
A funeral procession will be leaving the funeral home on Thursday, April 30 at 9:20 AM and proceed to St. Leo’s Parish, 24 Roxbury Road, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, Greenwich.
