Ralph J. Kara, 85, passed away on June 30, 2008 from complications following heart surgery. Born on July 13, 1922 in Darien, he was the son of the late Mary Marisco.
He attended Darien Schools and Highland Heights School in New Haven. He proudly served his country in World War II and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9617. He was also a member of the Piedmont Club of Darien, C.O.P.E.S., A.A.R.P., and the St. Gabriels Senior Group. Ralph was a devoted husband and father. Throughout his life Ralph worked energetically for those he loved and gave freely of his time, his talents and his love. All of those he leaves behind are so much better for having had Ralph in their lives.
His beloved wife Anna Lucy Schinella predeceased Ralph, with whom he shared 42 beautiful years with before her passing in 1989. His daughter Maryann Jozwick and her husband Peter of Skillman, New Jersey, his loving daughter Patricia Rood, her husband, Frank and his only grandson, Zachary, survive Ralph. Everyone who knew Ralph knows that Zachary held the most special place of all in Ralphs heart. The bond they formed in eleven short years will never be broken. His sister, Martha Worsham of Shelton; many nieces and nephews; as well as his companion of many years, Carmen Farrugia, and her family also survive.
The family will be receiving friends and family at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, on Thursday, July 3 from 4-8 PM. A funeral procession will be leaving the funeral home at 9:40 AM on Saturday, July 5 and proceed to the Sacred Heart RC Church, 37 Schuyler Avenue, where a Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:00 AM. Father Futie will be officiating. Interment will follow at St. Johns Cemetery, Darien.
