Ralph �"Nippy Williams, 76, passed away on Saturday, August 16, 2008 at Stamford Hospital. Born July 31, 1932 in Stamford, he was the son of the late Ralph V. and Aurelia Downey Williams.
�"Nippy grew up in the Glenbrook area and attended Julia A. Stark Elementary School. He was a parishioner of St. Maurice RC Church. He later attended Burdick Junior High School and graduated from Stamford High School, Class of 1950. After graduation, he attended Malvern Prep School in Malvern, PA, where he was quarterback on the football team that won the Philadelphia Interact Championship in 1951. Ralph was drafted into the US Army and stationed in Ashoffenberg, Germany where he played fullback for the 18th Infantry Regiment. Ralph relocated to Florida, where he spent 30 years mostly involved in Golf Course management. When he returned to Stamford, he spent nine years as Executive Director at Sterling Farms Golf Course. Ralph was instrumental in re-establishing programs at Sterling Farms, such as the Inter Club Tournament and a golf program for Retarded Children. Ralph was very active in local sports and in 2003, was honored by the Stamford Old Timers.
He is survived by a sister, Ann and her husband James McAuliffe of Springfield, Mass; a niece, Anne and her husband Kevin Grace of Mass; a nephew, Douglas and his wife Ingrid McAuliffe of Great Falls, VA; and grandnieces and a grandnephew.
A Memorial Mass will be held at a later date. There will be no calling hours. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations are made in Ralphs name to a charity of ones choice.
