Ray Green passed away at Stamford Hospital on Sunday, April 13, 2008 after a brief illness. Born in Glenbrook, he was the son of the late Alfred and Viola Allen Green.

Ray is survived by his beloved wife, Dody Pokorny Green of Stamford and was happily married for 53 years; a son, Ray Green, Jr. and his wife Corinne; a grandson, Steven S. Green all of North Carolina; two brothers, William of Stamford; and Alfred of Bethel; a sister, Dorothy of Danbury; and several nieces and nephews.

Ray was a graduate of Stamford High School and a former twenty year volunteer with the Glenbrook Fire Company. He was an engineer for the City of Stamford, retiring after forty-three years in 1996.

Ray was a Veteran of the Korean War having proudly and honorably served the US Army from November 1952 to November 1954. He served in the 40th Infantry Division 160th Regiment �"H” Company; 7th Infantry Division 17th Regiment; and after a 30 day leave, reported to Nike Hercules Missile Project, Belleville, NJ. Ray returned to Korea in 1989, a special guest of the Senior Negotiator for the United Nations RADM, Larry Vogt. He received two Battle Stars, a Bronze Star, US Presidential Unit Citation, Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation, Nobel Peace-Keeping medal, United Nations Service medal, National Defense Service medal, the Korean Service medal and the Korean War Service medal.

He was the Director of Eastern CT (New London area) Council of the Navy League and served on the Navy and Coast Guard committees. He was also a member of the Commissioning Committee USS Connecticut-SSN22; Director of NSS Connecticut-SSN22 scholarship program; and a member of the Korean War Veterans Association.
Ray was also a charter member and senior vice commander of former VFW, post 11200 and a member of the Springdale VFW, post 9617.

Friends and family may call at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, on Wednesday, April 16 from 4:00 – 7:00 PM. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 11:00 AM on Thursday, April 17. Interment will follow at Fairfield Memorial Park Cemetery. www.cognetta.com
