Richard Bulan, 74, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on September 14, 2009 at Stamford Hospital. Born September 5, 1935 in Stamford, he was the son of the late Nicholas and Yolanda Horvath Bulan.
Richard was a retired mail carrier having worked for the US Postal Service for fifty one years. In addition, he was a part time employee of The Stamford Advocate for some 38 years. Serving in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956, he was a member of the 86th Infantry Regiment assigned to the 10th Mountain Division.
A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, he is survived by his cherished wife of 52 years, Grace Carriero Bulan of Stamford; two sons, Gregg J. Bulan and his wife Theresa of Trumbull; and Richard J. Bulan and his wife Anne of Monroe; a sister, Dorothy Osika of Stamford; and four grandchildren: Terry, Joseph, Matthew and Jessica Bulan. Also surviving him are in-laws Peter and Donna Robotti and Frank and Ann Carriero, all of Stamford, and many loving nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Robert N. Bulan.
Richard greatly enjoyed time spent travelling with his wife and was a very talented handyman. His many interests included fishing, cooking, chess, bird watching, and music. He was also an avid N.Y. Yankees and N.Y. Giants fan.
Possessing a great sense of humor and a tremendous work ethic, Richard treasured his family and many friends. He was well known for the kindness, generosity, and thoughtfulness that he showed toward the many people whose lives he touched. These traits, along with the dignity that he showed, gained him the respect and love of many. The world was a better place because of his being here and he will be greatly missed.
Friends may call at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, on Saturday, September 19 from 4:00 �" 8:00 PM. Services and interment will be private.
