Rita Granelli

Rita Mae Granelli, 87, of Stamford passed away peacefully in her home on Friday October 3, 2014 with her loving family by her side. Rita was born on October 26, 1926 in Stamford to the late Thomas and Julia Gillespie Gavaghan.
Rita was a lifelong Stamford resident having graduated Stamford High School Class of 1944. She married her late husband Edward Ernest Granelli on May 6, 1950. She worked for America Cyanamid during World War II and retired from Air Express in 1992 after ten years of service. Rita was a member of the St. Leo’s Rosary Society and an avid bowler having bowled at Bowl-A-Rama for many years. Rita’s greatest love was for her family; visiting her home was a welcoming experience, where she was a wonderful cook and baker and would keep you entertained with endless hours of story-telling, especially with stories of Stamford past. She was the consummate caregiver devoting herself to family and extended family when they were in need.
Rita is survived by her daughter Sharon O’Reilly and her husband Dennis and her son Edward E. Granelli, Jr. and his wife Cathy, both of Stamford, her five grandchildren; Kathleen and Kelly O’Reilly and David, Amy and Matthew Granelli and her sister-in-law Irene Granelli of Stamford.
Besides her parents and her loving husband Rita is predeceased by her sister Marie Mallory.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday October 9, 2014 at St. Leo’s Parish, 24 Roxbury Road, Stamford, CT at 11:00AM. Interment will follow at St. John’s RC Cemetery, Darien. The family will welcome visitors to their home at 115 Akbar Road, Stamford, CT on Thursday October 9, 2014 between the hours of 7:00 and 9:00PM. The Nicholas F.
