Rita V. Rodriguez (Fradera) passed away peacefully with her family on March 23, 2016. Rita was born on November 16, 1927 in New York City, Daughter of Mercedes Slavis (deceased) and Americo Fradera (deceased). She was married for 64 years to the “love of her life”, J. Louis Rodriguez (deceased) and is now at peace with him. Rita’s caring for her husband during his battle with Alzheimer’s and the love and concern for her family, including her 8 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren dominated her life.
She is survived by her 2 daughters; Carmen Brana (Walter) of Casselberry, Florida; Christina McCarthy (Robert) of Peterborough, Ontario; and her son Robert Rodriguez (Joyce) of Cornish, Maine. Her 8 grandchildren and great grandchildren were spread all over North America, but Rita was always in touch through phone calls and emails. Alice Anderson (Danny) of Minnesota, great grandchildren: Lindsey, Ashley, and Carly; Rita Miller (Donald) of Texas, great grandchildren: Brendon and Luke; Mark Brana (Michelle) of Nevada, great granddaughter: Rebecca; Tony Brana of Minnesota; Karen McCarthy (Jamie) of Ottawa, Ontario; Michael McCarthy (Grace) of Connecticut, great grandson: Connor; Nicole Rodriguez (Nathaniel Macdonald) of Maine; and Daniel Rodriguez (Ashley Williford) of Colorado.
Special thanks to the ICU staff at Stamford Hospital, especially nurses Krista and Alyssa, and her surgical team of Dr. Marilee Frietas, Dr. Charles Littlejohn, Dr. Maher Madhoun, and Dr. Michael Nurzia. They were the most patient and compassionate people, who took care of her as if she was the only patient in the entire hospital.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Rita Rodriguez’s name to Stamford Hospital ICU in care of the Stamford Hospital Foundation at 1351Washington Blvd, Suite 20, Stamford, Connecticut, 06902.
There will be a burial service for family members and a celebration of Rita’s life on Mother’s Day weekend.
