Robert A. Cooper, 96, a lifelong resident of Stamford passed away peacefully on Monday, April 27, 2020 at the Stamford Hospital, Robert was born in Stamford on February 4, 1924 son of the late Irving and Dorothy Lanis Cooper.
Lifelong resident of Stamford for all his 96 years. Served in the Army Air Force during WWII and a former member of VFW. He was one of the original members of the Umbrella Club of Stamford. Robert was a salesman most of his life. Proprietor of shoe stores in New Canaan and Stamford. In retirement years “Bob” enjoyed sunny days sitting in front of his home where he talked to the neighbors, had a daily chat with the mailman, and always gave a wave to the dog walkers and joggers passing by. Most of all Bob was a family man to his son and daughter-in-law who lived with him and cared for him the past 12 years. His three grandchildren were his pride and joy and he especially looked forward to the times when his great-grandchildren would come to the house for sleep-overs. Even recent visits from “great-grand dog”, Tuck, put a smile on his face as he watched him run around the backyard. “Pop” will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Robert is survived by his son Michael Cooper and his wife Kathy of Stamford, his cherished grandchildren Erik Cooper and his wife Katie of Danbury, Brie O’Bryan and her husband Lucas of Bridgeport, and Ryan Cooper and his wife Jessica of Ridgefield. His four great-grandchildren Jake, Mackenzie and Anthony Cooper of Danbury and Cooper O’Bryan of Bridgeport.
Besides his parents Robert was predeceased by his beloved wife Ruth Annunziata Cooper who passed in 2004.
Because of restrictions due to the current public health situation, all services for Robert will be private. He will be laid to rest with his wife.
