Robert P. Herzog died July 11 at Stamford Hospital after a brief illness. He was 98. Born in Washington, DC to the late Sol and Estelle Peyser Herzog, he moved to Westport, Connecticut and New York City in 1934. In 1939 he met the love of his life, Katherine Sloss, and they married eleven months later on New Year’s Eve, settling in Stamford. His wife predeceased him, passing away in 2004. He was also predeceased by his son James Herzog, his daughter-in-law Margot Johnson Herzog, and his granddaughter Sonia Herzog.
He is survived by a son John and his wife Irene of Mainz, Germany, and a daughter Sally Hogan and her husband Larry of Fanwood, New Jersey. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren, all of who greatly admired and loved him.
Bob, as he was widely known, graduated from George Washington University in 1933. He remained an active learner all his life, participating in courses and in leadership at Learning in Retirement.
For over 40 years Bob commuted to NYC where he was the CEO of Walter M. Ballard Corporation, a hotel and restaurant interior design firm. In Stamford he participated in the activities of many community and political organizations, including the Stamford Good Government Association, the Red Cross and the United Fund. After retirement in 1984 he increased his volunteer work and was also actively involved with the residence council at Atria Stamford where he lived since 2004.
