Robert Mayes
March 22, 1932 — November 9, 2015
Robert “Lefty” J. Mayes, 83, of Stamford, passed away peacefully at Stamford Hospital on Monday November 9, 2015. Robert was born in Stamford on March 22, 1932 to the late Charles T. and Helen Zyara Mayes, Sr.
Robert served in the US Navy during the Korean War, was a member of the Glenbrook Athletic Club and a member of the VFW in Springdale. He was a retired member of the US Postal Service and a member of the US Postal Workers Union.
Robert is survived by his loving wife Margaret Cronin Mayes of Stamford and his three sons; John C. Mayes of Stamford, Robert E. Mayes of Stamford and Kevin R. Mayes and his wife Bridget of Norwalk.
Besides his parents, Robert is predeceased by his sister Barbara Maintanis and his brother Charles T Mayes, Jr.
A funeral procession will leave the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, CT on Friday November 13, 2015 at 9:20AM and proceed to St. Maurice RC Church, 358 Glenbrook Road, Stamford, CT for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00AM. Interment will follow at St. John’s Cemetery, Darien. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday November 12, 2015 from 4:00 to 8:00PM.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the American Diabetes Association, 2080 Silas Deane Highway, 2nd Floor, Rocky Hill, CT 06067.
