Robert Paul Taylor, of Darien, CT, passed away unexpectedly on August 17, 2026 in Danbury Hospital after a brief illness, only 10 days short of his 70th birthday. He was born on August 27, 1956 in Bronxville, NY. He grew up in Stamford, CT and graduated from Stamford High School in 1974.

Robert’s mechanical skills blossomed at a young age under the guidance of his father, a talented mechanic himself. Robert began his career in local auto repair shops, but soon found himself gravitating toward motorcycles. He worked for several years as a mechanic at the former Lindner Cycle Shop in New Canaan, CT, as well as other shops. And, for the rest of his life, he became an avid motorcycle enthusiast and collector, forging lifelong friendships over a shared love of anything with an engine and two wheels. His rare vintage motorcycle collection decorated nearly every room in his home, and he entertained guests with fascinating stories behind each of his machines.

Robert larger-than-life stature was eclipsed only by his strong personality. If he didn’t approve of something (or someone), he never minced his words, for better or worse. As repeated many times by those who knew him, “Robert is Robert.”

Robert was predeceased by his father, Mark Taylor (born Kazimierz Siezieniewicz in Poland) and his mother, Kathleen “Kate” Taylor (born in Putney, a suburb of London). Understandably, Mark and Kate chose Kate’s maiden name as the family surname, sparing their sons from a lifetime of “How to you spell that?”

Robert is survived by his older brother, Mark Taylor (Pam), and his younger brother, Anthony C. Taylor; his nieces, Angela DiGiovanni and Alana Taylor, and his nephew, Anthony C. Taylor, Jr.; and great-nieces, Avery and Addison Taylor. He is also survived by his beloved German-Belgian Shepherd mix, Milo.

Per the family, there will be no calling hours, and burial will be private. Donations in Robert’s memory can be made to Randy’s GSD Rescue in Alabama.
