Robert Trefry, 77, died peacefully at home, in his sleep, on Monday, May 4, 2015.
Bob’s life was centered on his family; he did everything in his power to make the lives of his children and grandchildren the best they could be – whether that meant telling each grandchild (with a twinkle in his eye) that they were secretly his favorite, or helping out physically or financially with school fees, help to buy (or fix up) a house, or anything else someone he loved wanted and needed.
He was a man who was passionate in his beliefs and acted on them, to the point of being sure to buy an American car so that an American would keep their job – and as a long-time Little League coach, he was the one who chose for his team the first girl who wanted to play, because he felt it was the right thing to do.
Bob just lit up in a crowd, talking long and loud and, especially in his childhood and early adulthood, he loved to sing, especially the old Irish songs and other ditties that his father had sung so often during his life.
After a full career as a tool & die maker at Pitney Bowes, Bob opened his own machine shop called J. P. Tools, where it wasn’t uncommon for him to put in 14 hour days, seven days a week. He was an expert at his craft but mostly he did it for what it allowed him to do, or buy, for the family he loved.
Bob was a lifelong Mets fan, never missing a game on TV, and had--just a few weekends ago—thoroughly enjoyed a beautiful day at Citi Field with one of his two sons.
Bob leaves behind his children Lynda Gutierrez and her husband Mario, of Southbury, Paul Trefry, of Stamford, and Jim Trefry and his wife Cynthia, of Stamford, as well as seven grandchildren: Brian Beatty and his wife Yen Nee, Meghan Trefry, Matthew Trefry, Jack Trefry, Brooke Trefry, Hannah Trefry, and Amalia Gutierrez. He also leaves two sisters: Adelaide Smith of Stamford, Maureen, and one brother, Don Trefry. Bob was predeceased by Marilyn, his beloved wife of 56 years as well as his brother Kevin and his sister, Janice Butkovski.
