Robert Gary Westerfield of Stamford, CT passed away after a long illness on Wednesday, April 24th surrounded by his loving family. He was born on November 9, 1950 in Stamford, CT to Ernest J. Westerfield and Johanna (Stuckus) Westerfield.
He graduated from Stamford High School in 1968 and then went onto the Porter & Chester Institute to become a Draftsman. He also worked at Stop & Shop for over 40 years before retiring in 2011. Robert was an avid train enthusiast and collector. He was a past Vice President of the Western CT Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society. He was also a member of the Sono Switch Tower of Norwalk and the Danbury Train Museum. Little known, in his youth, was how Robert was an excellent dancer and had won multiple dance competitions with the Fred Astaire Dance Studio.
Robert is survived by his brother Richard Westerfield and wife Melanie (Musulin) Westerfield of Pittsburgh, PA, brother David Westerfield , wife Joy (Deicke) Westerfield and nephews, Kevin & Kyle of Danbury, CT. Robert was a kind, loving person who will be greatly missed by his family and friends, especially his nephews whom he adored.
Family will receive relatives and friends at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Ave., Stamford, CT 06902 on Sunday, April 28th, 2013 from 2:00PM to 6:00PM. Interment will be held privately at a later date.
