Rose Rumore Mallozzi
October 9, 1919 – November 27, 2012


Rose Rumore Mallozzi lived most of her life in Stamford, Connecticut. She was born in Brooklyn, New York on October 9, 1919 and her family moved to Stamford when she was 3 years old. Her father, who had emigrated in 1904 at age 13 from Italy through Ellis Island, founded The Stamford Coal and Supply Company in 1922. Rose moved to Virginia in 2002 to be near her daughter. She lived until the age of 93, spending her last several years in the excellent care of Avalon Assisted Living in McLean, Virginia. She died peacefully in McLean on the morning of November 27, 2012.

Rose graduated from Stamford High School in 1937 and then attended the New York School of Interior Design. She was also an accomplished seamstress and taught sewing at the Singer Sewing Company and The Boys and Girls Club of Stamford. During World War II, she participated in the war effort by sewing American flags.

Rose worked in Stamford at the Conde Nast publishing company and at the Yale & Towne Manufacturing Company. For many years, Rose also worked in her father’s heating business which converted from coal to oil after the war. Now known as Reliable Oil & Heat Company, the business is still family owned and operated.

Rose enjoyed her retirement years traveling all across the United States with her husband. She also cared for the elderly members of her own family. A lifelong avid reader, Rose volunteered to work with the elderly, often reading to those who were no longer able to read themselves.

Rose was preceded in death by her parents Frank Paul Rumore and Josephine Licari Rumore and her beloved husband of 32 years, Rosario Mallozzi. Her younger sister Providence Rumore and her older brother Roy W. Rumore, Sr. also predeceased her. Rose is survived by her younger brother Joseph W. Rumore of Parkland, Florida; her daughter Lauraine Coughlin Matchneer and her husband William W. Matchneer III of Alexandria, Virginia; her son Frank Paul Coughlin of Cavendish, Vermont; her grandson Brian M. Pieczko, Jr. of Brooklyn, New York; and many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Maurice RC Church, 358 Glenbrook Rd, Stamford, Saturday, May 11, 2013 at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at St. John's Cemetery, Darien.
