Roy V. Hughson , 89,of Stamford passed away on Friday, February 1, 2013 at the Notre Dame Convalescent Home in Norwalk. He was born in Brooklyn, NY on June 13, 1923 to the late Arthur A. and Nathalie Lesnor Hughson.
Roy enlisted in ROTC for four years while attending High School and later served in the U.S Army during WW II. He obtained a Federal Radio Operator’s license and worked at WNYC during the summers. He attended NYU College of Engineering and earned a Bachelor Degree and a Master of Science Degree in Education. He then went to work for the Fleischman Labs as a group leader in the Process Development Division for nine years and then joined McGraw Hill Publishing Co. in NYC as an Editor with the Chemical Engineering Magazine division.
In 1963 he married the love of his life Alice V. Ferris. During his time at McGraw Hill, he was promoted several times, attaining the position of Senior Editor. Roy traveled often giving lectures on Chemical Engineering and also received many Editorial Awards. He retired in 1987, but continued to work freelance for several years. On November 1, 1987, his wife of nearly twenty five years passed away. Roy not only traveled to all seven continents, he was also a gourmet cook and taught classes in cooking, as well as attending many courses at Norwalk Community College. He was also a member of the Archaeology Club and volunteered on their newsletter.
Roy is survived by his daughter Patricia Gail Jones and her husband Michael of Norwalk, CT, his brother Howard Hughson and his companion Diana of Goshen, CT, a stepson Dennis Yancy, two grandsons Michael R. Jones, Kevin S. Jones and his wife Karla, a great grandson Andrew S. Jones and two nephews Eric Hughson and his wife Catherine and Paul Hughson and his wife Amy, including his best friend Bob Steele and his wife Helene.
Funeral services and Interment will be held privately.
The family requests that donations be made in Roy’s memory to The Ferguson Library, 96 Broad Street, Stamford, CT 06901, the Notre Dame Convalescent Home, 76 W. Rocks Road, Norwalk, CT 06851 or to a charity of one’s choice.
