Russell E. Kemp, Jr., 71, of Stamford, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 29, 2014 at Calgary Hospital in Bronx, NY. He was born in Dayton, OH on October 28, 1943 to the late Russell and Mary Riley Kemp. He was a resident of Stamford for 35 years.
Russell is survived by his loving wife Maria D. Garcia Kemp, of Stamford, his son Russell E. Kemp III, of Stamford, his daughter Christina M. Kemp, of Stamford, his sister Barbara Ann Steck and brother-in-law Jerold Steck of CA, two nephews, Brian Steck of NY, David Steck of CA, and a niece Holly Latz of CA.
Russell received his undergraduate degree from the University of Miami (Ohio), and Masters Degree in Finance and Banking from Wright State University. In 1962, he joined the U.S. Army Security Agency and served in South Korea. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War.
Russell started his career as a Certified Public Accountant with the firm Deloitte & Touche in Ohio, followed by Audit Manager with the International Paper Company in New York. He became a Vice-President of Control and Administration with British Petroleum PLC and finally Vice-President of Ultramar PLC. In the mid-1990s, he shifted his career to the public service sector before retiring in 2007.
A funeral procession will be leaving the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Ave., Stamford, CT at 12:00PM and proceed for a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at St. Leo’s Parish, 24 Roxbury Road, Stamford on Saturday, November 8, 2014. Interment will be a later date at the Dayton Memorial Park Cemetery, Vandalia, Ohio. Family and friends may call on Saturday, November 8, 2014 before church from 10:00AM to 12:00PM at the funeral home.
