Ruth Sugerman Propp, 81, a long-time resident of Stamford, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2014, at Greenwich Hospital.

Ruth was born in Brooklyn, New York on January 11, 1933 to Jerome and Rose Sugerman. She attended the University of Vermont, and graduated from Brooklyn College. She later obtained a master’s degree in library science from Southern Connecticut State College.

Ruth moved to Stamford in 1955 with her husband, Budd Propp, and lived for many years in the Roxbury area. She was employed as an executive assistant at several Stamford-area companies including Potlatch, the Financial Accounting Standards Board, and the law firm Paul, Hastings. Ruth was a long-time active volunteer with the Friends of the Ferguson Library, opening and managing the used bookstore at the Harry Bennett branch.

Ruth is survived by her beloved sons Kenneth Propp, of Brussels, Belgium, and Jonathan Propp, of Menlo Park, California; by her five grandsons Andrew, Alex, Alan, Daniel, and Jeffrey; and by her companion Morton Ginsburg, of Stamford. She was pre-deceased by her brothers Robert Sugerman and Arthur Stafford.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at 1:00 pm, at the Stamford Jewish Community Center, 1035 Newfield Avenue, Stamford. Interment is private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Ruth’s memory be made to the Friends of The Ferguson Library, One Public Library Plaza, Stamford, CT 06904.
