Salvatore J. Iaco, 85, of Orange, beloved husband of Christine (Scheuber) Iaco, passed away peacefully Thursday, January 15, 2009. Born February 5, 1923 in Stamford, Sal was the son of the late Joseph and Rose Crocco Iaco.
He attended Stamford schools, graduating from Stamford High School. Sal was a veteran of the US Army, 3rd Infantry Division, Signal Corps, having served in Africa and the Italian Campaign during WWII. An Orange resident for the past 3 ½ years, he was employed by Grade A/Shoprite in Stamford from 1972 until his retirement. Sal enjoyed traveling and went on many wonderful trips with his wife of 48 years. He was an avid fan of the New York Yankees and Green Bay Packers and enjoyed doing crossword puzzles. Sal was also a member of St. Ann RC Church in Milford, a former member of St. Mary RC Church in Stamford, AARP, and VFW Post 10013.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children, Steven Iaco and his wife Anita of Wayne, NJ; Joseph Iaco and his wife Joanie of Boca Raton, FL; and Andrea Moran and her husband Ed of Milford; two sisters, Helen Republicano of Palm Desert, CA; and Gloria Livingston of Glendora, CA; seven grandchildren; a great granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews. He will be especially missed by his youngest grandson, Jake, who called him Papa.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, Mario and Anthony Iaco.
Friends may call at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, on Monday, January 19 from 3:00 7:00 PM. A funeral procession will be leaving the funeral home at 8:40 AM on Tuesday, January 20 and proceed to Sacred Heart RC Church, 37 Schuyler Avenue, Stamford, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 AM. Interment will follow at Queen of Peace Cemetery.
