Salvatore Progano, 80 of Stamford, passed away peacefully surrounded by all of his family on Thursday, January 21, 2010 at Stamford Hospital. Sal was born on June 23, 1929 in Girifalco, Italy, he was the son of the late Rocco and Maria Pirio Progano. Sal immigrated to the United States in 1945 settling in Stamford and becoming a life time resident as a citizen of the United States. He worked as an Electrical Assembler for 28 years for the Wendon Co. of Stamford before retiring in 1994. Sal was known for his love of his family and gardening, especially his hot peppers.
Salvatore is survived by his wife of 55 years, Rosa DeFilippo Progano of Stamford; sons Rocky S. Progano and his wife Sandy and John S. Progano and his wife Eamir, all of Stamford; daughter Roseann and her husband William J. Fogarty III of Barnstable, MA; six grandchildren, Rocky S. Progano II and his wife Ashley, Christopher J. Progano, Mark J. Progano, William J. Fogarty IV, Brian C. Fogarty and Kassie Marie Progano. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
In addition to his parents, Salvatore was predeceased by his brother, Rocco Progano and his sister Santa Ferragina.
A funeral procession will be leaving the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, CT 06902, on Saturday, January 23, 2010 at 9:40AM, and will proceed to St. Benedict’s Church, 1 St. Benedict Circle, Stamford for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:30AM. Interment will follow at St. John’s RC Cemetery, Darien. Friends may call at the Funeral Home on Friday, January 22 from 4:00-8:00PM.
