Salvatore Angelo Sabia, 90 of Stamford, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 28, 2010at Smithhouse Health Care Center in Stamford. Born on February 28, 1920 in Stamford, he was the son of the late Angelo and Vita Marie Sabia.
Salvatore was a Master auto and truck mechanic for the City of Stamford for 25 years before retiring. After that he worked for Southfield Packaging. He loved to tell stories about his time in the Navy where he was part of the greatest generation serving his country honorably aboard ship during WWII. Sal was an avid card player and greatly enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He loved listening to Frank Sinatra and Willie Nelson music at their home, and he and his wife Josephine had a wonderful life together and enjoyed traveling and entertaining.
Salvatore is survived by his daughters, Diane DiGiacomo and her husband Anthony of Stamford and Linda Parent and her husband Michael of Cromwell; three grandchildren, Anthony DiGiacomo Jr. and his wife Jamie, Lisa Mallozzi and her husband Pasquale, and Kristin Schiering and her husband Robert; three great grandchildren, Grace Ann DiGiacomo, Ava Rose Mallozzi, and Alexander Pasquale Mallozzi.
In addition to his parents, Salvatore was predeceased by his beautiful wife of 61 years, Josephine Iorio Sabia, his sister, Maria Sabia and his brothers, Dan, William, Leo and Anthony Sabia.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30AM at St. Maurice RC Church, 358 Glenbrook Road, Stamford, CT 06906 on Thursday, July 1, 2010. Interment will follow at St. John RC Cemetery, Darien, CT.
In lieu of flowers the family request memorial donations be made in Salvatore’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place Building, Memphis, TN 38105.
