Shirlee Frances Green, 84, passed away on September 28, 2007 at Sunrise Assisted Living of Stamford. Born December 22, 1922 in Stamford, she was the daughter of the late Marion Lockwood Bottomly Tymon and Edward C. Bottomly, Jr.

Shirlee was a lifelong resident of Stamford, where she and her husband resided on High Ridge Road for forty years. She graduated from Stamford High School Class of 1940. Shirlee was an active member of YWCA and U.S.O and planned activities with the Noroton Heights Naval Base – Radio Operations. She was enlisted in the U.S.N.R. from 1942 – 1946 and became a Navy Wave. She trained at Hunter College and Iowa State Teachers College and was assigned to the Navy Department of Personnel, in Arlington, VA. She was discharged at the end of WWII as a Chief Petty Officer, one of the first women promoted to that rate. Shirlee was employed by St. Gabriel School and in different capacities at the City of Stamford from 1972 until her retirement in 1991 and also served as Secretary and was an active member of the Glenbrook AARP.

She is survived by her husband, William A. Green, Sr. of Stamford; a daughter, Patricia Green Kanner and her husband Hugh of Plymouth, MA; a son, William A. Green, Jr. and his wife Lori of Stratford, CT; two grandchildren, Kristina and Daniel; three sisters, Marion and her husband Phil Giordano; Dorothy and her husband Emil Kowalsky; and Rosemary Ferris; a brother, Robert and his wife Anne Tymon, all of Stamford.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Jean Baxter.

Friends may call at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, on Monday, October 1, 2007 from 5:00 – 8:00 PM. A funeral procession will be leaving the funeral home at 9:20 AM on Tuesday, October 2, 2007 and proceed to Church of the Holy Spirit, 403 Scofieldtown Road, Stamford, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at Queen of Peace Cemetery in Stamford.
