Sik Lin (Lau) Cheung of Stamford, affectionally known as Ling, passed away surrounded by her family on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at the age of 81 years. Born in Po On, Guangzhou, China, Ling moved to Hong Kong in the 1960s. In 1976, with her family, she immigrated to Stamford, where she proudly became an American citizen and made her home.
Ling was happiest in her kitchen. While in her family’s opinion, she was a masterful Cantonese chef, she never stopped pursuing excellence and continued learning. Known for her dumplings and for her Lunar New Year feasts, she also regularly honored special requests made by her children and grandchildren. Her cooking was a language of love and through her recipes and memories of simple dinners and elaborate celebrations, she has left a legacy of nourishment and warmth.
Ling is survived by her husband of 60 years, Pink Sing, her children Ike (Miki), Ka Wai Shanahan (Robert), Kimberly Ianne (Peter) and her beloved grandchildren, Bobby, Mitchell, Lucy, Francesca and Leo. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered for her kindness, humor and devotion to her family.
A memorial service celebrating Ling’s exceptional life will be held at Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford CT at 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Saturday, November 8, 2025.
