Sofia Karidas, a lifelong resident of Stamford, passed away at her home on Wednesday, December 16, 2020 surrounded by her family. She was born on September 20, 1929 in Tripotamos, Kilkis Greece and was one of ten children born to the late Kosmas and Anna Deligiannidis. She was 91 years old at the time of her passing.

Sophia was preceded in death by her loving husband, Serafim, and is survived by her daughter, Dr. Anna Karidas of Stamford, and her son, James (Demetrios) Karidas of Encino, CA; her granddaughter, Sophia J. Karidas; her siblings - Elizabeth Stamatelos and husband Elias (Madison, CT); Nick Deligiannidis (Thessaloniaki, Greece), Sonia Deligiannidou (Thessaloniki), Panagiotis Deligiannidis (Kilkis, Greece), Victoria Mavropoulou and her husband George (Corinthos, Greece); along with nieces and nephews in New Jersey, Ridgefield CT, and Greece.

Sofia was a very strong, resilient and hard-working woman who was dedicated to her children, Anna and Dimitri, after the passing of her husband at a very early age. Although challenging, she left her children without need. She enjoyed cooking, crocheting, and you could always find her in her vegetable garden. Sofia was also an active member of the Church of the Archangels and dedicated to the Philoptochos Society. She loved to volunteer at the Greek Festivals.

Family and friends may offer their sympathy and condolences to Sofia’s family on Saturday, December 19th, from 10am to 11am, at Archangels Greek Orthodox Church, 1527 Bedford St., Stamford, CT 06905, with the funeral service beginning immediately after at 11am. The interment will be private.

Memorial donations may be made to Church of the Archangels or the Philoptochos Society at the Archangels Greek Orthodox Church, 1527 Bedford St., Stamford, CT 06905 or at www.archangelsgoc.org.

In accordance with the social restrictions due to COVID-19, please be sure to wear a face covering and observe distancing standards if you plan on coming to the church services.
